Filter Designer 1.4.2


     Filter Designer 1.4.2  is the latest version of the filter synthesis application which enables the rapid design of Butterworth, Chebyshev or Bessel filters, in low pass, high pass, band pass, or band stop configurations. In Version 1.3, transmission line filters (coupled line, stepped impedance, and capacitive-gap transmission line resonance filters), were added to the previously available lumped element filters.

 well as lumped element filters.


      Filter Designer is based on equations developed or compiled by George L. Matthaei, Leo Young, and E.M.T. Jones in their book Microwave Filters, Impedance-Matching Networks, and Coupling Structures, (originally published in 1964, but still available, and a widely used reference).  The method of filter design is the Insertion Loss Method, which enables the synthesis of filters by specifying its insertion loss at specified frequencies.  Low-pass, high-pass, band-pass, and band-stop filters are all readily designed based upon a normalized low-pass prototype filter, which is automatically transformed into any of the filter types.

    Filter Designer follows the graphical approach outlined in the book, while eliminating much of the drudgery of thumbing through pages and performing repeated calculations.  But it goes much further.  An independent S-Parameter analysis is performed on the synthesized filter, so that the filter response can be compared to that predicted by the design graphs.  And a schematic is generated.

    Filter Designer requires OS 10.7 (Lion) or higher, and requires a 64 bit processor.
